GNUnet is a secure anonymous file sharing program. This peer-to-peer networking program is but a framework but its final result for the user is that it allows to share files anonymously in a secure way. It uploads files to be shared among the community members. Besides it performs searching for the user to find files, and these files can be selected and downloaded. Files are ranked according to the number of downloads performed. The program's GUI is user-friendly and uncomplicated. Its functions are sorted in tabs.
The program's installation is effortless thanks to its wizard. After the process, the program will require you to complete some configuration steps (again, wizard-based), including the network connection and the limitation on usage of resources; both are needed to start using GNUnet.
The program starts some framework processes before it opens its GUI. These are shown on its General tab offering the chance to stop the service.
There is a lot of documentation provided on its website, it’s recommended to read it before you use the program as some tasks must be started sometimes by running the indicated files. GNUnet operates in Windows, GNU/Linux, FresBSD and OpenBSD.
